New life for Sidcup Storyteller

The London Borough of Bexley have announced that they have procured a new operator for the cinema at the award-winning Sidcup Storyteller. PlaceCulture have managed the wide market testing and selection process for the new operator, following the departure of The Really Local Group, who have been operating the cinema under licence since January; after experiencing wider problems with their portfolio.

The Storyteller building, which neatly combines the town’s library, library cafe and cinema, is a 2021 architectural gem by DRDH and has recently won a highly coveted RIBA National Award for 2025, which puts the project in the running for this year’s Stirling Prize.

Small cinemas are rapidly adapting to new markets and embracing a wider business model which embeds them more deeply into their local communities as an essential part of their business mix.
