Derby Made launches public consultation

For the last two years PlaceCulture have been developing the business case and designing options for a landmark , 60,000 sq. ft. public building on the site of the old Derby Assembly Rooms, which partially burnt down in 2104. Our clients are Ion Developments and Vinci UK, working in partnership with Derby City Council.

The new community hub is a more commercially orientated version of Stockroom or Culture House Sunderland, with wrap-around retail and and other elements surrounding and ultimately underwriting a substantial public building which could end up housing a new library, casual workspaces, event spaces, social offices, community meeting spaces, gallery and exhibition halls and facilities for families. With a target 750k visitors per annum, it has the potential to transformational for the fortunes of Market Place and by proximity central Derby.

We launched the first stage public consultation on 30th April, the BBC were mostly taken with the idea of a new roof top bar…
