Sidcup Storyteller, Bexley

Client: London Borough of Bexley
Scale: Library, café, and cinema in town centre landmark
Impact: Secured new cinema operator and sustainable business model after tenant collapse
Role: Business planning, operator search, negotiations, asset management, procurement

The Storyteller is a 2021 library, café, and cinema designed by DRDH, winner of a 2025 RIBA National Award and Stirling Prize contender. It anchors Sidcup town centre, combining cultural services with civic and social value.

When the cinema operator collapsed in January 2025, the future of the building was at risk. We were commissioned to design a revised business model, strengthen integration with the library and local communities, and develop a revised food and drink strategy.

We undertook a comprehensive market search exercise, securing a new operator aligned to this vision and with a view to the long-term sustainability of the cinema. We managed negotiations with outgoing and incoming tenants and advised on asset management and procurement.
